Art Nudes on film
Refraction – “As light passes from one transparent medium to another, it changes speed and bends”. This abstract set of fine art nudes, shot through stem and crystal glassware, challenges the viewer to experience the perspective of another being. A perspective loaded with the constraints of my upbringing, my path, my journey through life; yet liberated from the structure that society has placed on viewing the naked human form.
To date we have created 14 single edition refraction prints sized 20×24, all in the darkroom with our print partner Dalmation Lab. Each print starts out being shot in our Myrtle Beach studio with one of my favorite cameras, the Fuji GX680III using Kodak Tri-X 120 black and white film. A typical studio set up would take 2 hours, the complexity of shooting in to and through stem and crystal glassware was correct lighting and avoiding, where possible, the highlighted spots of reflected light. And this was before we asked a model to join us and actually shoot some of that lovely Kodak Tri-X film.
